Ahhhhh, LA. Y'all probably know by now that it's by favorite place to be. I was there a few weeks ago only for a couple of days after we drove from Las Vegas celebrating Des' birthday weekend. I know I have been sort of M.I.A. but I am moving! Forgive me. You know how busy and stressful moving can be so it has been tying me up along with daily work. (I'm trying to stop making excuses but sheeeesh) it's been hectic! But anyway, hope you guys are well! We only spent 3 days in LA but we certainly made the most of it while we could! Visited with my high school friend Yvette, shopped around the Grove around a bit, strolled Abbot Kinney Blvd, Melrose, Venice Beach, and ate....a lot. New favorite healthy lunch spot - The Butcher's Daughter Venice. They have a spicy kale caesar salad that is off the chaaaaiiiin. Of course I had to squeeze in some time to take a few photos of my outfits that I wore while there. In LA we always walk a lot so I've learned my lesson by bringing comfortable shoes for almost everyday. The weather is just about perfect, so I opted for this gingham dress from Lulu's and paired it with these Gazelle Adidas for a sporty look. It can be kind of chilly during the day so I had a denim jacket on hand when I needed it. What pieces are you looking forward to wearing for Spring/Summer? I'm looking forward to wearing more sneakers with casual-chic outfits!

Happy Monday, y'all! With Valentine's Day being only a couple days away, I guess I'm considering this a "last minute" post for all of your last minute ideas. Wait....I just realized that every time there's a holiday (that we need to shop for) I always always always create a "last minute" post. I promise I'm not always late with everything. Hahaha. I do a lot of things better under pressure and I know that I'm not the only one! Just being realistic. I don't always shop for birthday/Christmas/Valentine's Day gifts months and weeks ahead, I shop the week before..maybe the week of..or a couple days before. *slaps forehead* If you're reading this, you're probably a last minute shopper too (or just reading the blog & I thank you!) so don't worry, I got you.

Although Valentine's Day is not a holiday that I go crazy about, I do still buy a little something for my parents (some sort of couple's thing) and my man. This year, we aren't planning much. I'll be working that day so I'm sure it will be a nice night in with my favorite bottle of Prosecco and I ain't mad at that. Des' birthday is also next week (Lord I still have to buy him a birthday gift) and we will be going on a little fun quick trip so I'm okay with laying low this week/weekend. IF - and that's a strong if we do something for Valentine's Day, I plan on wearing this Tularosa dress because it's so comfortable, casual, yet flirty, which would be perfect for a date night out. And it's on major sale!!!! What are your plans for Valentine's Day? Do you and your significant other normally go all out or just Netflix and chill? If you're still looking for outfit ideas, look no further! You might be cutting it close for ordering + on time delivery but some places have reasonable overnight options, or you can just get your inspiration ideas here and go find them in store. Do your thing, girl!

Happy Friday everyone! Can you believe that January is finally over? It seems like I'm not the only one who felt like January took his sweet ol' time. It was the lonnnnnnnngest month everrrrr. Exaggeration much needed there.  I got a lot of things done, and I have a lot of exciting things coming up! Just a random thought: I am so thankful for life. If you are breathing you should be too. Life is too short to take for granted and could be taken away at any moment. So love those around you.

Okay, about this leopard coat. When I tell you I have been on the hunt for a leopard coat for a YEAR now, I'm not kidding. So, I tried to find a good one that I loved last year, but I never found the right one. Either the print was not too cute, too shiny, or sold out. Story of my life right. Every year, Zara comes out with a leopard coat and they sell out within a few weeks and then you can't find it anywhere. The good thing is, leopard coats never ever ever go out of style! So you can buy one when Winter is over (most likely on sale) and then save it for the following year. Recently this past Fall, I ordered two leopard coats that I had to return because I didn't like the type of leopard print. Does that make sense? I wanted one so bad so I just waited it out until I found another one that I loved. Once again, Zara came out with another one this year which didn't last very long and I got it! I got lucky because it was the last one in store, on SALE. Major score.

So here's why you need a leopard coat in your life:

A.  Leopard coats can make just about any outfit come alive. You don't have to just wear matchy matchy black outfits. (I did because that's what I wanted to wear that day haha) You can wear different prints like stripes, or graphic print t-shirts for a more casual but well put-together look.

B.  Again, leopard coats never go out of style. As I mentioned before - they were pretty popular around last year, the year before, and now. Depending on where you live, you can rock a faux fur coat a couple times throughout the year (unless you live in Texas like me.) I just love how versatile you can get with a leopard coat.

Before I began writing this post I sat at my computer desk staring at the screen, fiddling with my nails and hands, and scratched my head trying to think of where to even start. This felt like homework but I really want to start incorporating wellness and more positivity to my blog. Balance for sure starts with having a handle on various elements of your life. When you're mentally in a good place, you should feel calm, clear-headed, grounded, and of course, motivated. The elements in life that require the most balancing can be divided into two categories: internal and external. Often, most people focus on one more than the other.

Internal - Mind: Challenging yourself intellectually vs. creating opportunities for your mind to rest. Heart: Giving love vs. receiving love. Health: Eating, drinking, exercising, vs. resting and treating yourself to extra things you probably don't need.

External - Work:  Pushing yourself to achieve goals vs. seeing the bigger picture and enjoying the ride (mostly me) Social: Satisfying your social desires (going to that party that you really didn't want to go to) vs. taking the time that you really need for yourself. Family: Fulfilling your familial responsibilities vs. creating healthy boundaries. Fun: Making time for things you enjoy doing vs. making sure don't overdo it.

Both are pretty positive but if you put all of your energy towards just one, something that is intended to be positive can end up being unfavorable. I personally tend to focus a lot on things that need to be done. Like work (or my job) and that's where most of my energy goes during the week. I used to struggle with taking extra steps to better my personal life that would be fulfilling to me. I would get home from work sometimes and not put in the extra work for my future. When I was stuck in that rut, I didn't have much of a positive attitude at work like I had before. This is really important to me. When I relaunched my blog in October, that was a huge accomplishment. I noticed that when I practiced prioritizing "balance" I saw the benefits. Having a positive mindset can really change how you balance the good in your life. That being said; here are 8 quick tips to help you create and maintain a well-balanced lifestyle.

1. Set Goals:

Make a list of which ways you desire to balance your lifestyle. Decide what you want to accomplish to help you get there. Write these goals down and look at your list daily. Try your hardest to work towards those one day at a time.

2. Plan Tasks:

Make another list of daily, weekly, and monthly tasks that you feel that you need to do to help you achieve each of these goals. Block out certain times of your day (each day) to spend time doing at least one thing that will help you get closer to scratching more goals off your list. If you have a really restricting schedule (which that should be no excuse) start your day by waking up an hour earlier to get something done.

3. Acknowledge:

Take some time to look at your state of mind, your life, and how you're feeling. Be true to yourself and notice the areas of your life that you're neglecting.

4. Examine:

Figure out if you're leaning more toward an internal or external focus, or if there are some areas within each category that you would like to be more balanced.

5. Prepare:

Can you figure out what inner thoughts you might have that could be keeping you from sticking to your plans? You need to throw all of the negative self talk, doubts, and worries out the window. See ya later!

6.  Plan:

Decide that you want to take your goals in life seriously and stay on track with working towards them. It takes time and a lot of effort to create better habits and patterns.

7. Connect:

Have someone in your life that can help you challenge yourself, and that will celebrate your smallest accomplishments with you. Everyone needs someone that can help you keep motivated, supported, and focused during the harder times.

8. Empower:

Be kind to others and be kind to yourself. I try to start my day each day by reading a list of positive affirmations (and my daily devotional from the Bible) say those positive affirmations out loud. Multiple times if you feel like it. Here's a good one -->  "CREATIVE ENERGY SURGES THROUGH ME AND LEADS ME TO NEW AND BRILLIANT IDEAS."

Happy Sunday, y'all! It has been such a refreshing week for me because I have had a lot of time to get things D O N E. My man was out of town for work the whole week, and my dog Zeik is at camp - lol. He loves it. I finally got the chance to reach out to some vendors for the wedding and secured some meetings. Go me! (I'm always last minute with things.) Anyway, since some of you are new to the blog - welcome! It's still so cold here in Texas and I'm excited that I get still wear a few coats that have been hanging in the closet. I was soooo lucky that I got this Top Shop coat (now sold out)  because it would sell out, restock, sell out, restock and I kept watching the site until I finally scored it. And it was on sale. Not to rub that in. But I love the color even more in person. It's such a gorgeous shade of pink it's almost more on the warm, mauve neutral side.

This coat is also so very comfortable and oh so warm. I just wanna sleep in it. I didn't plan on wearing it with a pink sweater and a pink bag, it just kind of happened. I loved how the different shades of pink worked so well so I ran with it. I also plan on wearing this coat with a black or brown turtleneck and black pants - maybe. It's that versatile. The one that I am wearing is called "Alicia" and it also came in a pretty brown color. Even though you can't get this one anymore, I have rounded up 5 other pink coats that you should check out! Even if you aren't a pink girl you still might like these because...they're that good. Also, 'tis the season to buy coats because of the many Winter sales going on this time of the year. Have a wonderful weekend! <3

While being involved with social media and putting yourself out into the public every day, it could seem like your audience or people who follow you know you and can connect with you personally. To me, that's a really good thing because you will gain trust. If you just put out your work and share your craft without sharing who you really are there could be a disconnect. Not saying anything is wrong with that - but with what I'm doing, I want people to always feel connected to me in a good way. I don't want to just be a blogger that wears and shares cute outfits and tells you where to buy something. I want to be more than that. I'd like to make a positive impact on others and be trusted to share valuable content. In 2018 I am challenging myself to open up more for you to get to know me.  My life isn't perfect and I don't try to make it seem like it is. I want you to get to know the real Meghan a little bit better than you do.

Here are a few random facts about me that you probably don't know just yet:

1.  I consider myself an extroverted introvert. I love being around and seeing people but I am also kind of quiet and reserved

2. I am the youngest of five kids

3. Los Angeles is my favorite city - I can go many times throughout the year and not get tired of it. If I go anywhere else in California other than LA, I would probably be thinking the entire time "I could be in LA" LOL

4. I have two dogs. A 9 year old Miniature Schnauzer named Armani, and an 11 month old Doberman Pinscher named Zeik

5. I am originally from the small town of Beaumont (Big Money), TX

6. My fiance and I went to high school together, but never dated in high school

7. I absolutely cannot stand hearing people chew or smack gum. Ugh

8. I was on the front page of the newspaper when I was 8 years old because my dad duct taped a huge umbrella to my Barbie jeep and the title was "Meghan stays cool during the Summer by the help of her dad, Jerris" haha

9. My favorite song in the universe is Before I Let Go by Frankie Beverly and Maze. Anytime I hear it I'll blast it and might just start crying from happiness. Anyone who has been knowing me for a while knows that

10. One of my favorite movies to watch is the Temptations

11. I am a true daddy's girl. I am blessed to have a daddy like mine and growing up I always thought that he was the smartest man in the world. I love you too, Mom

12. I love old people. Anytime I see them in the grocery store or wherever I can't stop smiling at them

13. I LOVE  to eat raw carrots

14. I may seem sweet and shy but I can get really hot-tempered if I feel rubbed the wrong way

15. I am getting married at the end of this year :)

I've been on the hunt for a g o o d pair of red booties for a couple months now - until I found theeeeeeese. Everywhere I looked, I just could not find the right style that would suit me. Either the heel would be too short, my size was sold out, or I'd find a pair way out of my price range. It seems as if those were my ongoing issues with solving my red bootie fix. I finally found this pair at Steve Madden and instantly loved the pointed toe with the chunky blocked heel. Red is just like a neutral that can be paired with so many shades in your wardrobe to make a bold pop when needed. Not to mention, the color red is so sexy! I pulled the look together with my new striped sweater that I love oh so much from my friends over at Dylan Wylde during their Holla Day party back in December. I do plan on wearing it a few more times with denim or a skirt before I put it away until it gets cold enough again. Sweater weather will be over soon in Texas...and I don't know if I'm excited about that or sad?

Just as I was toward the end, I thought I'd add a little bit of encouragement to this post. At first I was thinking; "wait this is just supposed to be an outfit post." But whatever. I thought about Oprah's speech at the Golden Globes last night and felt so inspired. If you didn't get a chance to catch it live then here it is. Just remember ladies; you are enough. Enough to create change, enough to speak up, enough to stand up, and enough to run anything you want. YOU. ARE. ENOUGH.

WOW, I can't believe that it's already the year 2018. Someone wake me up. 2017 came and went so quickly and it didn't wait for anybody, honey. Am I right? Last year for me was definitely full of growth, some testing times, and true self-evaluations. One of my best highlights was when I relaunched my brainchild - Style For Breakfast (after being stuck in a slump about it for a whole year) and was so happy after I did. It felt damn good. There were quite a few people that have stuck with me from the beginning even when I wasn't blogging at the time who were giving so much positive feedback. Thank you all for your support - always! When a new year comes, everyone wants to hit reset, refresh, and have a few New Years Resolutions. That's all normal.

The title of this post is called "New Year, New Thoughts...Kinda" for a reason. Yes, it is a time when you can start over with a clean slate and somewhat prepare yourselves (things you can control) for the next coming months/year. Although, it is good to take a step back monthly to see how things are coming along and if you need to make any adjustments to reach whatever your goals may be. I try to do this throughout the year, not just at one particular time of the year. We all get stuck or have a few road blocks at some point and that my friend, is going to happen. Because, life. There are a ton of ideas that popped in my head when I thought about what all I wanted to make happen this year. Some new, and some the same from last year. Last year, I kind of let my situations take control without me taking control of my situations. This caused a lot of self-doubt and unwanted energy - from myself. I learned to nip that in the bud real quick. My mindset is still the same, I just have new things that I want to accomplish this year. That being said, here are 5 ideas to help you take over 2018.

1. Declutter

If you really want to start the year of fresh, it is a great idea to declutter your space. Your home, workspace, and even your mind. If you have a closet full of things that you no longer wear, pass them along to someone who could use them. Clean out your dresser and throw away the old junk that you haven't touched in forever. Have some quiet time alone. Decluttering can also be cutting out toxic things or relationships from your life. A clean space means a clean slate.

2. Do One Thing Each Day That You Keep Putting Off

I know you've heard the phrase; "Do something today that your future self will thank you for." What's that one thing that you know you need to do, but never really get around to making it happen because you don't have the "time" or you just always put it on the back burner? Go ahead and do it. It could be the simplest thing like taking your dog for a walk after you've been at work all day (I'm guilty of it but getting better) to what may seems like one of the most difficult things such as - taking that first step to starting a new project. Believe me, each day that one step closer to whatever is it will become a huge payoff for you in some way. Make time for what you want. Go home from your regular day job (that can squeeze the life out of you if you let it) and hustle your dreams.

3. Create a Vision Board

They actually do work, y'all! I'm telling you. Have you ever decided that you wanted something - could be anything (like a new particular car) and all of a sudden you start seeing them everywhere around you, on commercials, and on the roads? Your visions can become your reality if you believe that they will, and if you put them where you can see it everyday. I made a vision board before that actually came to past. I truly believe in them. And God. You can have anything you want if you just figure out what you have to do to be able to get it. Putting what you want out into the universe, changes everrrryything.

4. Travel More

I will forever be fond of traveling because it widens your horizons and overall perspective on things. I don't want to get older and say I wish I had traveled more. I'm pretty sure you don't want that either. To really live is to see and experience new things. Traveling can lead to so many opportunities that you probably couldn't even imagine at this very second. You might get inspired to move to a different country that you've only visited once or twice. You never know who or what can make an impact on your life when you open your mind to freedom. I want to see things that I have never seen before. I want to go to all those beautiful places that I always see on National Geographic and all the travel channels. Boy, if I had Anthony Bourdain's job. But just think about it, there is a whole universe out there that is waiting to be discovered. Traveling is learning.

5. Be Yourself, Unapologetically

Ever struggled with worrying about what other people will think of you in some way if you do this, that, and the other? *raises hand* Yep, I did too. Who hasn't before? I promise you will be so much more attractive if you just be your own true self without constantly looking for approval from others. I used to think like: "oh, let me not post this because my face looks weird" or "let me not share something amazing that just happened to me because I don't want to seem like I'm bragging" Yeah, screw all that! If you just passed an exam you better shout it out loud so the world can hear how freaking amazing you are. Don't spend time playing the comparison game either because you're going to find yourself in non-healthy place emotionally. Everyone has their own different timings. Your skin is the way it is because it was meant for one person - you.

Thanks so much for reading! I really appreciate you for taking the time to just to click on this post. If you have anything that you would like to see from me, please let me know in the comments! I've only been back to blogging for a few months now and can't wait to see where Style For Breakfast will go this year. Thanks for being on this ride with me. I want to know, what do you plan on conquering this year? Best of luck, and wishing you a healthy 2018!
